The Amorical Cup - June 6 & 7, 2020

Post by Vorrt » Thu Jul 25, 2019 9:57 am

Greetings my fellow coaches.

Next year is the annual Amorical Cup, the premier North American team tabletop Blood Bowl tournament. I will be going to this event (missed the last one and sadly missing the World Cup this year), and I would like to start building a team.

No rules have been announced yet for construction of the teams, but here are the details I do have.

Date: June 6 & 7, 2020
Location: Ottawa, Ontario, Canada

From what I'm reading, this will fall directly between Spike! and POWTown (both large Canadian tournaments).

I believe the past Amorical Cup was teams of 4, and I can see them doing that again.

So the question I want to ask is:

I may get there. Can't tell for sure, will depend if my health condition is good enough for a weekend of debauchery and casual stuff. Would like to. Worst case scenario it's a 3 hours ride for me, so count me as a maybe leaning toward the Hell Yeah!

Alright BBPN'ers, the rules of the for the Amorical Cup have been released, along with cost and housing. Link to the site

First off, the hard pill to swallow: Cost

The cost for a Squad to attend The Amorical Cup is $1100 (I'm awaiting an answer if that is Canadian Dollars or US Dollars). So that is $275/player.
What it includes:
  • Lodging for Friday & Saturday nights, 2 people per room, 2 rooms per Squad
  • 6 games of Blood Bowl
  • Amorical After Hours (Saturday night gaming)
  • 2 pair of custom d6 per coach
  • 3 custom resin miniatures
  • 4 custom beer cap token/skill marker

Squad Building Rules
  • 4 coaches per Squad
  • No coach make take the same team
  • Each Squad has 10 pts to build the Squad
  • 4 pt teams - Dark Elf, Chaos Dwarf, Lizardman, Orc, Undead, Wood Elf
  • 3 pt teams - Amazon, Bretonnian, Dwarf, Elf Union, Necromantic, Norse, Skaven
  • 2 pt teams - Chaos, Chaos Pact, High Elf, Human, Khemri, Khorne, Nurgle
  • 1 pt teams - Goblin, Hafling, Ogre, Slann, Underworld, Vampire
First tiebreaker in matchups will be fewest points spent to build the Squad.
There is a trophy for best squad to spend 6 points or less.

Team building Rules
  • Teams have 1.1 million GP to build their team
  • Must have at least 11 players
  • Star Players do not count as part of the minimum 11
  • If both teams take the same star player, both may use the player
  • Inducements allowed: Star Players, Bribes, Sideline Staff (no wizards)
Skills based upon team tier
  • 4 pt teams - 4 normal skills
  • 3 pt teams - 4 skills, 1 may be a double
  • 2 pt teams - 6 skills, 3 may be doubles
  • 1 pt teams - 6 skills, 4 may be doubles
  • All skills assigned at start of tournament
  • Max of two skills to a player, can be a mix of normal and double
  • No skill limit (i.e. you can take 6 break tackle ogres)

I have the following questions submitted to the staff running Amorical Cup:

- Is the price in US dollars or Canadian dollars? Price is in Canadian Dollars. So it would be around $840 USD (as of 09/12/2019) for the team, so about $210/person (rounded up to future proof exchange rate changes)
- What is the earliest a team can check in to their rooms on that Friday? Check in is 4 pm
- Is it possible to extend the stay by one night (check out on Monday)? Yes, information to be detailed soon.
- When is check out on Sunday? 10:30 am Checkout
- Will there be a place to store Luggage after check out on Sunday? For those staying through Amorical housing, they will be arranging something to store luggage.
- Is it possible to pay the registration fee in payments? or fully due at time of registration? Payment due in full at time of Registration
- Are halfings allowed to take the Halfling Chef? Halfling Chef is part of the Sideline staff, so yes.
- Are Named sideline staff allowed? I need to consult the NAF rules on this
- Grocery store nearby? 5-10 min drive away
- Parking costs? To be determined

Looking for coaches to join me! Right now, szlrm and I are building a team. I'm going to volunteer to be captain (he's captaining a World Cup squad).

Additionally, I'm looking to have T-shirts made for our team.

The start of my weekly Bumps.

Also going to post Roster ideas (serious and otherwise) for this.

First up:

Maroon Giants - Human team

Ogre w/Block - 140k
Blitz w/Guard - 90k
Blitz w/Guard - 90k
Blitz w/Tackle - 90k
Blitz w/Tackle - 90k
Thrower w/Dodge - 70k
Catcher - 60k
Catcher - 60k
Lineman - 50k
Lineman - 50k
Lineman - 50k
Lineman - 50k

3 RR - 150k
1 FF - 10k
Apo - 10k

Thought process:

- Ogre is there be the roadstop/door breaker
- Blitzers with Guard to support other players
- Blitzers with Tackle to chase down the dodgers and be markers
- Catchers to be eligible receivers and assists
- thrower to be the principal ball handler
- Linemen to soak up damage
- 3 RR because Nuffle is a Cunt
-1 FF because I had 10k left
- Apo because Nuffle is a Cunt

Missed yesterday, but here's my next idea of what's going on for Amorical Cup. Skills added in bold

Khorne

Bloodthirster (6-5-1-9): Loner, Frenzy, Wild Animal, Claw, Horns, Juggernaut, Regeneration, Mighty Blow
Herald (6-3-3-8): Frenzy, Horns, Juggernaut Block
Herald (6-3-3-8): Frenzy, Horns, Juggernaut Block
Pit Fighter (6-3-3-8): Frenzy, Sure Hands
Pit Fighter (6-3-3-8): Frenzy, Leader
Pit Fighter (6-3-3-8): Frenzy, Guard
7 x Pit Fighter (6-3-3-8): Frenzy

2 RR

So full confession, I have no idea what to do with this team besides SURF!
  • Bloodthirster because he's probably one of the best big guys out there
  • Heralds to help surf more, with Block to keep them safe (although with the doubles I could change that up to Side Step)
  • Pit Fighters to fill out the rest. Some utility here and there. Sure Hands to reduce the need to spend a RR on pick up. Leader to give me the 3 RR security blanket. Guard to help make better blocks
  • 2 RR, because RR's are nice

So Friday's are going to be my day to discuss teams:

Tier A team 1.1 mil, 4 normal skills

Orcs

4 x Bob's
4 x Blitz
2 x Thrower
2 x Lineorc
1 x Goblin

3 x RR

Skills

1 x Blitz with Tackle
1 x Blitz with Frenzy
2 x Bob's with Guard

Thoughts:
  • Balanced Build
  • Unsure of what to do with only 4 skills
  • Never played Orcs in a tourney setting
